Hello everyone – did somebody say Just Eat? After covering Deliveroo and Uber One regular delivery subscription services we had a request to cover Just Eat as well as an alternative option in the takeaway market.
With takeaways becoming increasingly popular these days, looking for ways to save money on them can be helpful. All the main delivery providers have now moved to a premium option of offering a subscription service that may help you save on delivery fees.
So on to reviewing Just Eat+, and if this is worth it or not!

Quick Verdict on Just Eat Plus
A 90 day membership period for your money results in a fairly low breakeven point – provided you’d order a takeaway a month, you’re likely to be in pocket.
If you have a single takeaway you order from, it may be worth checking their menu directly as some restaurants and grocery providers do slightly mark up prices on Just Eat and similar platforms.
What does Just Eat Plus get you?
Just Eat+ is a 90 day long membership program which in exchange for £5.99, gives you unlimited free delivery on over £15 (excluding other fees) from both restaurants and supermarkets.
This can save you a fair amount of money, as restaurants near me have a range of delivery fees of £0.99 for those very close to near to £5.
The flip side is that it’s only the delivery fees that Just Eat Plus applies to as a benefit. As with all the delivery service companies you’ll tend to get other fees wrapped in which are not included – such as service and bag fees. For the avoidance of doubt, tips are not included.
Are there any other benefits to Just Eat Plus?
With some partner brands you’ll occasionally get a free item – we saw a free sausage roll from Greggs on larger orders as an example. These add-ons seem to be particularly focused on some of the larger chains on the Just Eat app, rather than something to expect from all takeaways.
I’ve seen reports from other users they’ve had the odd percentage based discount as well, but we didn’t see examples of this in our area and so I wasn’t able to test it.
Are there any exclusions to Just Eat Plus?
There are a couple to be aware of.
Not every restaurant or grocery store is included in Just Eat Plus – but they’re rare, we really struggled to find anything locally that wasn’t.
You also must use an online payment method like a credit card – cash and Just Eat Pay aren’t options that will work with it.
How often do I need to use Just Eat Plus to make savings?
I think one of the stronger aspects of Just Eat Plus is the fact the subscription runs for 90 days rather than monthly.
Combined with the average delivery spend of £1-£5, we can draw up some conclusions pretty easily.
Let’s take an average delivery fee of £2.29, and calculate where the breakeven sits within the 90 day period.
Whilst there are other benefits available in the form of free items or percentage discounts, as there are rather specific and localised we’ve ignored them in this analysis.

As you can see, this shows likely benefit from having the Just Eat Plus membership if ordering more than 3 takeaways in a 90 day period – or one a month.
Are there any disadvantages to Just Eat Plus?
There’s a couple of points to note that are more things to be aware of with delivery platforms in general, rather than outright disadvantages of Just Eat Plus itself.
Menu Mark-Ups
It’s fairly common that restaurants slightly mark up their prices on delivery apps vs. in the restaurant itself and over a few items these add up.
Delivery platforms subscriptions work best where you want a scheme where you can order from multiple places – if you’re targeting ordering from just a single, specific takeaway it might be worth checking what we can do directly.
Range of Choice vs. Rivals
Whilst Just Eat has a few chain names on there, their strategy has been to focus more on local and independent names rather than chains (which Deliveroo has hoovered up more of).
We recommend checking the app to make sure there are choices around you that you’d actually use.
How do I subscribe to Just Eat Plus?
Go to either the Just Eat Website or the App and click through to the account page. You should see a banner there to sign up.
Another route is to start an order and work your way through to checkout, where you’ll often be asked if you want to sign up to Just Eat Plus.
What if I don’t see the option to subscribe to Just Eat Plus?
We’ve had reported to us that some users not on a present subscription sometimes aren’t seeing the option to subscribe to Just Eat Plus.
Whilst the scheme is running overall it appears that Just Eat sometimes seems to limit access to membership – for instance during the World Cup when orders are high. Unfortunately there’s little you can do about this aside from wait it out.
Overall Verdict on Just Eat Plus
We think Just Eat Plus is a strong scheme if doing a minimum of a monthly takeaway.
We like that the subscription is fairly priced whilst running over a longer period than others at 90 days – equivalent schemes from rivals such as Uber Eats are often only a month (albeit it comes with more than just food delivery).
As with all the delivery company subscriptions, it’s worth looking at what restaurants are on offer before subscribing – Just Eat has a new named brands on there like Greggs, Wagamama and Pizza Express, but generally focuses on smaller independents so check first to be sure there’s options around you that you will use.
Finally, we also really appreciate the fact that Just Eat Plus doesn’t auto-renew. Most subscription services are set up to nearly try and catch you out by having you subscribe a month longer than you need to – not the case here and we gave a bit of extra credit for it.
Our overall conclusion is that Just Eat Plus is a really fair service that if a local takeaway is something that you’ll make semi-regular use of it’s likely to be worth subscribing.

Discounts on Just Eat Plus
There’s a few places worth checking to see if you can get a discount on Just Eat Plus
30 Day Free Trial
If you haven’t had a Plus membership before, Just Eat will usually offer you a free 30 day trial. If you go through to the Just Eat Plus signup page on the website or app, you’ll usually see a prompt to be able to sign up for it.
Broadband and Mobile Provider Rewards Tie Ins
This one is not consistent, but we’ve seen free Just Eat Plus previously offered on both O2 Priority and Vodafone VeryMe rewards, but not for a while. Worth a quick check in case it comes back, but don’t have expecations.
Student Discount Sites
For those lucky enough to have access to student discount promotions, the major operations in the space like Uniday, StudentBeans and Totum tend to have intermittent discount codes for Just Eat Plus.
Even if they don’t, they often have discount codes for money off an overall order so it’s worth checking.
Comparison of Just Eat Plus vs. Uber Eats vs. Deliveroo Plus
Just Eat’s main competition in the UK is rival subscription service Uber Eats and Deliveroo, so you may be interested how the services compare.

The Just Eat+ service is arguably the cheapest, as you pay a single one-off £5.99 fee that covers you for a full 90 days. However as we cover in the review Just Eat strictly enforces a £15 minimum order rule to get the free delivery, and their platform lacks some of the exclusive premium restaurant chains that you will find on Deliveroo which is the trade off.

Basically the best deal depends on how you’re going to use the service, but the best approach is to find one that works for you and use it consistently, rather than fall into a multiple subscriptions trap.
