Hello everyone! Everyone’s favourite plastic construction brick maker in Lego now has a loyalty scheme for when purchasing directly from them in the form of Lego Insiders Rewards. We think Lego is an absolutely fantastic product that really stimulates the imagination (and is surprisingly relaxing for adults too!)
Lego is quite expensive so anything that can save us some money, especially on those big sets is very welcome! Today I’m going to be taking a look at the benefits of the Lego Insiders Rewards programme and if it’s worth it or not.

Quick Verdict on Lego Insider Rewards
We think Lego Insider Rewards is a great scheme both for saving some money on Lego and getting access to some exciting and unique sets.
However as you have to buy directly from Lego to really get significant benefit from the scheme, it’s still worth checking prices with third party sellers to see if the discount they offer outweighs the Lego Insider benefit.
What is Lego Insider Rewards?
Lego Insiders Rewards is a loyalty scheme designed to provide you with extras and money off additional sets when buying Lego through the official Lego website only.
There’s a range of benefits, with a focus on a “points” which gives either direct money off, or access to special rewards – let’s cover that in more detail.
What are the benefits of Lego Insider Rewards?
There are three main benefits associated with Lego Insider Rewards
Lego Insiders Loyalty Points
The main benefit of Lego Insider is that on buying a set you’ll earn rewards points on your purchase.
You can also earn a small amount of Lego insider points by registering a set (from after 2018) with a QR code, earning 20 points per set. This is a good idea regardless because it lets you find instructions or replacements easily if ever needed.
You can also earn very small amounts of Lego Insiders points by completing the odd market research survey that comes up, covering details like who you’re buying kits for.
Lego Insiders Points can be used for a discount
The most immediate and simple way to use your Lego Insider Points is for a discount. When shopping for your next item, you can select to cash in your points to apply a discount.
Lego Insiders Points can also be used to buy Unique Lego Items
Another use of your points is to cash them in to buy member-exclusive products from the Lego Website
There is quite a range of stuff available from Lego sets (a Mario Kart spiny blue shell and a Sonic the Hedgehog badnik crab were the main prizes on offer today) to Lego merchandise such as pencil cases available more cheaply.
This ties into the points system above, but many of the kits and items available by cashing in rewards Lego Insiders are unique to that programme, meaning you can’t obtain them from other retailers.
Lego Insiders Double Points Events
Just occasionally Lego will run double points events, which are well worth looking out for. They’re not common but it’s exactly as it sounds – you’ll earn twice the points on any purchases, well worth taking advantage of.
Bonus Extras with Certain Purchases
It’s not on everything, but for Lego Insiders on some purchases you’ll get a little extra accessory set with your purchases – think some bonus figurines, or a little extra house.
As an example when looking at a Space Shuttle model, I got a little astronaut set figure set to go with it.
These aren’t essential, but always nice to have a little extra value on something you’re buying.
Early Access to New Lego
One thing that’s been really interesting to see is that some Lego has become a real collectors item.
For real enthusiasts for new sets, Lego Insiders offers some early skip-the-queue access to new sets.
How many Lego Insiders Loyalty Points will I earn per purchase?
The specific amount of points you’ll earn then depends on which currency you’re buying in. Here in the UK where we’re based you’ll earn point at a rate of 8 points per pound.

What is a Lego Insiders point worth?
It depends significantly on what you redeem it for.
Using for a Lego Discount Voucher
The easiest and simplest option is just to cash in your points for a discount on a purchase – this works out at a return rate for Lego Insiders Points of just under 5%, or an excellent 10% if you happen upon a double points day.
Let’s look at some of the maths on how we get there:
Earning: In the UK, you earn 9 points for every £1 spent directly at Lego (online or in official brand stores).
Redeeming: You need 800 points to claim a £5 discount voucher.
The Real Value: To get that 800-point threshold, you must spend £100.
Effective Cashback Payout: This makes Lego Insiders a 5% rewards scheme, or 10% during double point values.
Then there’s using it for the unique items. The Lego sets are amongst the best value but require a significant amount of points to redeem. Smaller items get you something easy but seem a little less efficient in points bang-for-buck.
Using for Legoland
One of the best ways I found to cash in your insiders points is to use them for a ticket to Legoland.
A single ticket to a European Legoland would cost you 4000 points, which in the UK you’d earn after an admittedly large £500 spend. An advance purchase booked ticket to Legoland Windsor is £29 – so the rate of return from this is about 5.8%.
Do Lego Insiders Points expire?
If you haven’t earned any points from a purchase in 18 months, your Lego Insiders points will reset to zero.
However you can make any purchase (even a tiny figurine) and it will reset the timer to 18 months again on all items, or register the QR code on an instruction manual to earn the 20 points and do the same.
Is it worth buying from Lego Directly for Insiders Points?
One of the big challenges with Lego Insiders is that it does require you to buy from Lego directly – so the question becomes if it’s worthwhile looking elsewhere for our Lego sets for discounts, or we should buy from Lego for the points.
This really comes into play as Lego sets quite often get discounts at retailers like Amazon, Argos and John Lewis.
Given we know the cashback rate we can answer this question directly. We suggest checking all and using the following rule:
- If the price is 5% cheaper via the third party site and Lego Insiders is not running a double points event, buy from the third party.
- If the price is 10% cheaper or more, buy via the third party site even if Lego Insiders is running a double points event.
- Otherwise, buying from Lego directly is the right route.
A Lego Insiders Points Boost Hack: Instruction Manuals
One way you can earn Lego Insiders points from a set bought from a third party is via scanning the QR code on the instruction manual. This gives you a flat 20 points, regardless of size.
It’s not much but actually a fairly good return on a small £4.99 set – less so on a giant £500 Zelda set!
The other advantage of this beyond the points is they can help reset the expiry data on Lego Insiders points, so good to have in the back pocket.
Is Lego Insiders worth it?
The Lego Insiders scheme is really well designed, offering unique rewards and a chance to pick up some unique items from Lego.
The reward rate is good for a loyalty scheme, and it’s especially worth waiting for a double points day. We also like how Lego have given a real range of options for redemption, to ensure you’ll get something worth using out of it – be that a trip to Legoland, a unique Lego set that’s an add on to an existing model or simply a discount of your next purchase.
Our only note of caution is that Lego tends to be expensive, and so it’s worth doing a quick shop around.
If the Lego kit you’re after is cheaper elsewhere by more than 5%, it’s better to go for that alternative (barring double points days). If they’re the same price or the discount is smaller, it’s definitely worth getting the set from Lego.com and getting the Insiders benefits.
And finally if you’re a real Lego enthusiast, the early access to new sets and bonus items on purchases is a clear incentive to sign up.
